Voice over is narration layered over video where the original audio may still be audible underneath — common in documentaries, corporate videos, news content, and eLearning. Dubbing replaces the original dialogue entirely and synchronises the new recording to the speaker’s mouth movements on screen. Dubbing is the standard for films, TV series, and any content where the characters are on camera speaking. Voice over is faster and less complex to produce; dubbing takes longer because of the sync requirements but produces a more immersive result for the viewer.
